WERNER VON BRAUN wrote the definitive book on MARS EXPLORATION, A book 50 years ahead of it's time.
Written in 1948, published finally in 1953, it is an AMBITIOUS, THOUGHTFUL, HOPEFUL tome on what it takes to explore and establish BASES on virtually ANY Planet in our Solar System.
He outlined the TRIP thusly:
70 CREW MEMBERS.
443 DAYS on the SURFACE of MARS.
5,320,000 metric TONS of liquid FUEL.
MULTI-FACETED Crew Members that could handle ANY EMERGENCY...
SEVEN Passenger Ships, THREE Cargo Ships...
Except for the fact that this mission was supposed to take place in 1965!
