LEROY GORDON COOPER.
One of the original MERCURY SEVEN.
Probably NASA'S GREATEST and most ACCOMPLISHED and skilled Astronaut.
How skilled? This man was able to, after TOTAL INSTRUMENT FAILURE, Splash-Down right next to the Aircraft Carrier that he was to rendezvous with. He came in CLOSER with his MERCURY capsule than any other SPLASHDOWN before or after.
He was STRANDED, like SPAM in a CAN (his term), without the INSTRUMENTS to help guide him in correctly.
So he DREW the correct VECTORS on the WINDOW of the Mercury Capsule! He guided himself in without a HITCH.
Best SPLASHDOWN in HISTORY.
He ALSO believed FERVENTLY in EXTRA-TERRESTRIALS.
He saw his first one over GERMANY in 1951.
May 3rd, 1957: CAPTAIN Cooper was assigned to the FIGHTER SECTION of the EXPERIMENTAL Flight Test Engineering Division at EDWARDS AFB in Southern California.
Capt. Cooper, James Bittick and Jack Gettys were setting up a precision landing system, the ASKANIA-Cinetheodolite, on a dry lake bed.
The SYSTEM was designed to start snapping photos at a rate of one per second as AIR VEHICLES landed.
But the VEHICLE that landed that morning was COMPLETELY UNLIKE
anything that these men had seen before, and these were men that had seen and worked on EXPERIMENTAL CRAFTS every day of their adult lives.
The ASKANIA system was continually FILMING the strange craft and both GETTYS and BITTICK snapped photos as well.
They reported all to the Air Force.
Sent in the FILMS and PHOTOS...which the Air Force has steadfastly DENIED ever receiving....
Of course, COOPER and his Men pursued the missing media, but....
These men, who had reported an ACTUAL FLYING SAUCER, continued to work on HIGHLY CLASSIFIED GOVERNMENT projects for the rest of their lives. They continued to pilot AIRCRAFT of all kinds...
Gordon Cooper passed away OCT. 4, 2004.
His ASHES were LAUNCHED into space along with JAMES (SCOTTY)DOOHAN's....
An INTERESTING tale that will have to come later....
GORDON COOPER can be found on YOUTUBE recounting his ET experiences....
