LITTLE CAESAR

LITTLE CAESAR

For Edward G. Robinson.

MMMMMMYEAH..., you Mugs...!

Hey, do you think it is possible that "Little Caesar", Caesar Enrico Bandello, was the first gay gangster?

Not that it matters, but if you look at the film through the eyes of today, you start to see little touches of....hmmmm, how do you put it?

Bandello's true pal, a guy he has a "soft spot" for, "Joe Massara", played by Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., is a DANCER, by profession....

Caesar declares right out that he has "no time for women", and sneers in that inimitable Edward G. Robinson manner...

He has a strange scene, lounging on a bed in his robe, while the smallest of the gangsters lays next to him, gazing up at him with admiring eyes, the tenderest scene in the film...

He never says a single word to a woman until he is dealing with a "hag" at the end that is holding onto his money...

He goes CRAZY and sets off to kill "Joe" and his woman, Glenda Farrell, in a jealous rage when Joe walks out on him and goes back to her...

He cannot shoot Joe when the time comes, after looking him in the eyes...

He says to his co-gunman that "this is what comes from liking a guy too much"...

Did you know that Edward G. Robinson was accused of being gay right after Little Caesar came out?

He had such a rough reputation that his publicists tried to soften his image by having a series of photos taken and distributed to all the magazines showing Robinson bathing in a tub full of MILK....

His fans did not like it, not one little bit....

Oh, this is MARS, by the way....
