Visit my website at - scientists using the Chandra X-Ray Observatory have uncovered what may be a huge halo of hot gas surrounding the Milky Way -and possibly other galaxies as well. The mass of this halo is at least as great as that of all the stars in the Milky Way put together. The gas is hot, perhaps 1 to 2.5 million degrees Kelvin -several hundred times hotter than the surface of the sun. In these images, you can see that the halo easily encompasses the nearby Large and Small Magellanic Clouds -the two nearest satellite galaxies to our own. Please rate and comment, thanks!Image Credit: NASA
