In a phone interview with the U.S. Desk on Thursday, Dr. Kevin Barrett said U.S. officials "are planning to take down the Internet in order to prevent the truth from gradually awakening the American people and other people of the West." On Wednesday, the Washington Post reported that Obama signed "a secret directive" enabling the military to take both "offensive" and "defensive" action "in the rapidly evolving world of cyberwar." The secret directive "establishes a broad and strict set of standards to guide the operations of federal agencies in confronting threats in cyberspace," according to the report. The newpaper said the information came from U.S. officials who saw the secret document but were "not authorized to speak on the record." Barrett called into question the the Post's report and described it as "a public relations piece put out by the U.S. government."
