A Spanish court ruled on Friday that former Spanish ruling party treasurer Luis Barcenas amassed 22 million euros in Swiss bank accounts. The news triggered protests in several cities. In Madrid around 1000 people in two groups gathered outside the main Headquarters of the Popular Party in Madrid amid beefed up police presence.
It was a protest against the political corruption in the country. Two large fences blocked the way to the demonstrators, who were monitored at all time by the large number of anti riot police. Demonstrators believed the corruption among politicians will only make the economic hardship worse for Spaniards.
The latest case of corruption concerning the former treasurer of the Popular Party triggered outrage all over spain. Spaniards are now even more infuriated by a government they already blamed for painful austerity measures.
