Description:

The Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) launched KAGUYA (SELENE) on September 14, 2007 from Tanegashima Space Center.

Shown here is the first ever high-definition video of the Moon\'s surface, which was filmed by the probe in November. You can see the Earth rising about midway through the film.

The major objectives of this mission are to obtain scientific data of the lunar origin and its evolution, and to develop the technology for future exploration.

\"KAGUYA\" consists of a main orbiting satellite at about 100km altitude and two smaller satellites (Relay Satellite and VRAD Satellite) in polar orbit.

    1) Contrast and brightness is adjusted for the surface of the moon so stars might not be visible2) It\'s obviously compressed for internet streaming3) If you read this press release http://www.jaxa.jp/press/2007/11/20071113_kaguya_e.html you will realize that this is taken from the real HD footage.

Looked fake to me - like a \'silly putty\' model. Only the last few seconds of footage looked remotely like the moon as photographed by the Apollo missions. Which means, if this latest footage is genuinely of our moon, then the NASA stuff is definitely fake!
