Syrian armed forces make fresh headways in battles against insurgents

Syrian army victories against foreign-backed militants have become a fact nearly on a daily basis, especially in Damascus and its suburbs. Press TV team accompanied Syrian army units in parts of al-Qaboun area that have been cleared of the foreign-backed militants. The Army regained control over the main bus station in al-Qaboun where Syrians used to head to any other Syrian city. However, armed men, who occupied it for nearly two months, destroyed it completely. Syrian army units have managed to completely secure the 1.5 kilometer industrial zone in al-Qaboun area which links Barzeh, al-Qaboun and Jobar together. Army personnel underlined the strategic importance of the secured area. Armed men who have been positioned in al-Qaboun industrial zone destroyed all the main factories systematically, causing damage to the infrastructure and economy. Army personnel said they defused tens of explosive devices left behind. The Syrian army continues to achieve progress on ground by securing more areas in Damascus and its countryside. Now after clearing the industrial zone in al-Qaboun area, the army has blocked the way in front of militants trying to infiltrate from Jobar. Army units have also regained control over other areas south of the capital. Al-Aqileh neighborhood in al-Hijjera has been also secured after eliminating the insurgents there. The area is where militants used to launch mortars from at Sayyeda Zeinab shrine. Confrontations in the meantime is increasing in areas like Barzeh, Jobar, Hijjera, Erbin, Zamalka and the main southern highway in Damascus.
