Rescue operation moves in for flood-hit Amur region Russia

Flood-hit settlements in the Zeya district of the Amur region received help on Thursday from advancing engineering units of the 35th Army of the Eastern Military District. Over 9,000 people and nearly 1,500 vehicles have been deployed in the Amur region alone, including 3,102 people, 427 vehicles, and 11 aircraft from the Emergency Situations Ministry. More than 1,000 people, including over 300 children, have been evacuated from flooded homes, with over 2,000 people evacuated beforehand from at risk areas. The water level in the Zeya and Amur rivers has reached up to 10 metres (32 ft), with rivers bursting their banks in many areas. The Russian Emergencies Minister, Vladimir Puchkov, inspected the rain-hit region on Wednesday and announced it as a state of emergency.
