Syria militants to open office in Jordan

Description:

The so-called Syrian National Coalition (SNC), which has been fighting to topple the government of President Bashar al-Assad, plans to open an office in Jordan. Rema Fahan, who is a member of the Turkey-born umbrella group, said on Friday that Amman has given the go-ahead for a representative office in Jordan. Fahan claimed that the office was being established to coordinate political affairs and refugee issues. The Western-backed opposition group has already established offices in several countries, including Qatar, Turkey, and Egypt. On Wednesday, Ahmad Assi Jarba, the new SNC leader, reportedly led a delegation in talks with Jordan's Foreign Minister Nasser Joudeh. A member of the delegation said that the two sides discussed free movement of opposition officials between Jordan and areas in Syrian where militant are active. Syria has been gripped by deadly unrest since 2011. According to reports, the Western powers and their regional allies -- especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey -- are supporting the militants operating inside Syria. The United Nations says more than 100,000 people have been killed and a total of 7.8 million of others displaced due to the violence. An estimated 1.8 million of the displaced Syrians are living in neighboring countries, including Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon. http://www.presstv.ir/
