The United States is assured of its failure in the ongoing war in Syria as the government of President Bashar al-Assad is on the road to win the battle, a political analyst tells Press TV. "From the United States' point of view, this is a war that they cannot win," Michael Jones, editor of Culture Wars Online Magazine, said in a Wednesday interview. The US is "now backing away and the Syrian government is now moving in to clean up the operation that has failed," the analyst added. Jones rejected the possibility of any reconciliation or cease-fire on the part of the Syrian government while government troops continue to win the war on different fronts. On Monday, the Syrian Army regained control of the strategic town of Drusha in the countryside of the capital Damascus following heavy clashes with the militants operating inside Syria, killing many of them and forcing many others out of the town. On Sunday, Syrian Army troops killed two leaders of the foreign-backed militants, Abu Zaid al-Almani and Abu Malik al-Shahri, in the coastal province of Latakia. Syria has been gripped by deadly turmoil since 2011. According to the United Nations, more than 100,000 people have been killed and millions of others displaced in the violence. Reports indicate that Western powers and their regional allies -- especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey -- are supporting the militants operating inside the country.
