At least 24 people have been killed and 47 others injured in two bomb explosions in and around the Iraqi capital Baghdad, police officials have said. On Thursday, a car bomb ripped through a popular fruit and vegetable market in Samarra, north Baghdad, killing 18 and wounding 32, according to police officials, The Associated Press reported. Several women and two children were among the dead. The attack at the Samarra market, locally known as the Mraydi, happened at a time when many struggling Iraqis were trying to take advantage of reduced prices at the market because surplus stock is sold before closing. The second car bomb went off in Abu Ghraib, on the western outskirts of Baghdad, killing six and wounding 15, according to police. Thursday's attacks were the latest in a seemingly unrelenting wave of violence pounding Iraq a decade after the US-led invasion, and follow a spate of car bombings and other attacks a day earlier that killed at least 82. More than 510 people have lost their lives in Iraq only in August so far, according to reports. According to the United Nations, a total of 1,057 Iraqis, including 928 civilians, were killed and another 2,326 were wounded in terrorist attacks throughout the country in July -- the deadliest month in Iraq since 2008. http://www.presstv.ir/
