A political analyst says the Israeli regime is the main beneficiary of a potential military attack against Syria by the US and its allies, Press TV reports. Israel is "the country that has the most interest in destabilizing the region and in particular in destabilizing Syria and breaking it up, according to Oded Yinon plan to Balkanize the Middle East and Balkanize Syria along ethnic and sectarian lines," author and Middle East expert Kevin Barrett said in an interview on Saturday. The analyst further questioned the credibility of a Friday report by the US Secretary of State John Kerry on allegations that the Syrian government is responsible for a chemical attack near Damascus, calling the attack a "false-flag provocation" by Israel against Syria. "...if you actually read his report, all of the details are classified, the sources are classified and all the report suggests that the sources pointing the finger at the Syrian government in this chemical weapons attack are coming from Israel," he said. On August 21, militants operating inside Syria and the foreign-backed Syrian opposition claimed that 1,300 people had been killed in a government chemical attack on militant strongholds in the Damascus suburbs of Ain Tarma, Zamalka and Jobar. A number of Western countries, including the US, France, and the UK, were quick to adopt the rhetoric of war against Syria despite the fact that Damascus has categorically rejected the baseless claim, and announced later that the chemical attack had actually been carried out by militants themselves as a false flag operation. The United Nations said earlier that an analysis over the use of chemical weapons in Syria would take time after the inspectors collected samples from the site of the attack.
