Obama addresses Americans on Syria

Description:

In US President Obama's first address on why the US should attack Syria, domestic policy pundits said he needed to do three things. Present the intelligence, --Make the case for action, and --discuss the diplomatic efforts to avoid a military blunder. According to some inside the Washington beltway, the president still hasn't made a compelling argument. When President Obama spoke to the nation, he said Syrian President Bashar Assad was to blame for deadly chemical attacks against civilians that killed hundreds outside of Damascus last month but he provided no proof. So far, the Obama administration has discussed satellite imagery and intercepted communications among Syrian officials. But doubts from the American public over the authenticity of US intelligence have not changed. And that could be why protesters and activists have maintained a continued presence in downtown Washington. Many who disagree with President Obama feel that he could be leading the US into another situation like Iraq or Afghanistan. Even as President Obama has tried to appear convincing, the White House has declined to say how it came up with its figure of more than 14-hundred people killed in chemical attacks. The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which opposes the Syrian government, has provided a figure closer to 500 killed. Some experts say that the US government is looking for any excuse to attack Assad. Groups such as the Human Rights Watch have tried to offer evidence that the Syrian government carried out an attack, but experts say the reasoning has holes and again, a lack of proof. http://www.presstv.ir/
