Armed insurgents claim shooting down of military fighter jet [PressTV]

Armed insurgents in Syria say they've brought down a military fighter jet.

The so-called Free Syrian army says the warplane was shot down in an area near the capital Damascus. Opposition sources also claim that militants made inroads in Dayr al-Zawr, north of the country on Saturday, prompting heavy artillery attacks by the Syrian army. They say at least 16 soldiers were killed in a bomb explosion on the outskirts of the capital Damascus. Meanwhile, the army says its units have gunned down over a hundred foreign-backed insurgents in Homs-- most of them non-Syrian
