A member of the Basque separatist group ETA has walked free from prison. Ines del Rio Prada was liberated after the European Court of Human Rights called her prison term unfair.
Outside Teixeiro prison, people gathered to express disgust as she took off in a convoy. They waved a Spanish flag with the constitutional shield crossed off, showing their outrage that the Spanish constitution is no longer respected from outside. Based on the same ruling, another ETA member Antonio Troitiño has been given conditional release.
Spanish Justice Minister Alberto Ruiz Gallardón said this was a decision taken by the European Court of Human Rights and had to be respected: "these are the consequences of compliance with the Strasbourg Court verdict. And I can assure you that on a day like today this compliance is a very painful one."
