How to save tomato seeds. Fermenting Kellogg's breakfast heirloom tomato seeds. We found an easy way to save tomato seeds by fermenting them last season and had nearly 100% germination this spring. Folks wanted to know how I save tomato seeds so here it is. Kellogg's breakfast is an heirloom beefsteak tomato which was cultivated right here in southern Michigan, the fruit may grow to 32 oz. or larger. The meaty flesh is yellow, orange, red and the tomatoes have a nice balance between acid and seeds, melon seeds, squash seeds and more can all be saved by fermentation. Fermenting seeds removes a coating which inhibits germination, separates non-viable seeds from viable seeds, and also helps clean the seeds of harmful bacteria, fungus and viruses that could be carried over to next year's garden vegetables.
