'Madrid summons US envoy for 2nd time in one week over espionage reports' [Christopher Walker @ PressTV]

Spain has summoned the American ambassador after new leaks revealed that the US national Security Agency bugged 60 million phone calls in the European country.

This is the second time in less than a week that Washington's envoy to Madrid is summoned to the Foreign Ministry to explain US mass spying activities on Europeans. According to a joint report by Brazil-based journalist Glenn Greenwald and Spanish newspaper El Mundo, the N-S-A collected the data over a course of one month in 20-12. The news comes on the heels of a similar story by French newspaper Le Monde revealing that the American agency had collected 70 million phone records in France. Spain has so far declined to join France and Germany in their efforts to alter the EU's intelligence deal with the US.
