SNC lays preconditions for Geneva talks [Mimi al-Lahan @ PressTV]

Syria's foreign-backed opposition-- the so-called Syrian National Coalition-- has set preconditions for taking part in the upcoming peace conference in Switzerland. The SNC says that any international conference on Syria must result in a political transition.

The conditions were announced in a statement on the second day of the coalition's meeting in the Turkish city of Istanbul. The group had earlier said it would not attend the Geneva conference unless it's supported by the insurgents on the ground. Damascus has already agreed to attend the talks, but has rejected any preconditions, such as insistence on President Bashar al-Assad's departure. The Geneva peace talks were proposed by Russia and the US on May 7 to end the over two-and-a-half years of crisis in Syria.
