This is al-Cherubim monastery on top of a mountain in al-Qalamoun region in Damascus countryside. Foreign- backed militants continuously attack the monastery coming from Rankous in an attempt to reach and take over Sednaya town in Damascus countryside. More than one hundred Takfiri militants from the al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra front and brigades of the so-called Free Syrian Army were killed during an attack they launched on Sunday against the monastery. Machineguns, RPGs and other types of weapons were seized. Militants in Badda, Talfita and Rankous areas which surround Sednaya increased their mortar attacks on the town following their defeat. A shell hit a school while another fell in the vicinity of Saint George Monastery. The Syrian army responded with gunfire. One of the Sednaya residents, who was fighting along with national defense forces against militants, was killed. The residents attended his funeral and called him a true hero. Sednaya is a Christian town that houses some of the oldest convents on earth like the Convent of our Lady. Its residents support the Syrian government. That's why it constantly come under attack by Takfiri militants who are strongly fortified in many parts of al-Qalamoun region as the mountainous area is close to Lebanese territories where militants get their reinforcements from.
