China's top military leader: 'US must be objective about tensions between China and Vietnam' [PressTV]

China's top military general has warned the US to be objective about the regional tensions between China and Vietnam.

General Fang Fenghui said Washington's biased stance would risk harming its relations with Beijing. He was speaking at the Pentagon after meeting with U-S Joint Chiefs Chairman General Martin Dempsey. The Chinese general warned that efforts by the U-S to increase focus on the Asia Pacific has stirred up disputes in the East and South China Seas. He also pledged that Beijing would maintain its interests in waters contested by Hanoi despite escalating tensions in Vietnam over an off shore oil rig. Meanwhile, China has slammed Vietnam over anti-Chinese protests that have left up to 21 people dead, most of them Chinese nationals. Foreign Minister Wang Yi told Vietnamese officials that Hanoi bears unshirkable responsibility for the violent attacks against Chinese companies and nationals in the country.
