Description:

Health Care Rally live from Portland Oregon. Keynote speaker was former Health Insurance insider Wendell Potter who is now a whistleblower on our for profit and corrupt Health Insurance system. We need to overhaul our healthcare system now because so many Americans are not covered and the whole host of other abuses that occur everyday in this country. The USA is the last of the major industrialised nations to have universal coverage. (Disclaimer: Views expressed here are not necessarily those of the video maker and are presented for informational and educational purposes only) He was a featured guest on a recent Bill Moyers interview http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/07102009/profile.html "In his first extended television interview since leaving the health insurance industry, Wendell Potter tells Bill Moyers why he left his successful career as the head of Public Relations for CIGNA, one of the nation's largest insurers, and decided to speak out against the industry. "I didn't intend to [speak out], until it became really clear to me that the industry is resorting to the same tactics they've used over the years, and particularly back in the early '90s, when they were leading the effort to kill the Clinton plan." Potter began his trip from health care spokesperson to reform advocate while back home in Tennessee. Potter attended a "health care expedition," a makeshift health clinic set up at a fairgrounds, and he tells Bill Moyers, "It was absolutely stunning. When I walked through the fairground gates, I saw hundreds of people lined up, in the rain. It was raining that day. Lined up, waiting to get care, in animal stalls. Animal stalls." Looking back over his long career, Potter sees an industry corrupted by Wall Street expectations and greed. According to Potter, insurers have every incentive to deny coverage — every dollar they don't pay out to a claim is a dollar they can add to their profits, and Wall Street investors demand they pay out less every year. Under these conditions, Potter says, "You don't think about individual people. You think about the numbers, and whether or not you're going to meet Wall Street's expectations."

Clhenter: There are other countries in the world where healthcare is more of a right and not an exploited service such as it is here in the good old former USA, home of the Duped and the Slaves (Not the Free and the Brave). Our system is the best in the world if you can afford it...period. Most people cant. I am so sick of wingnuts spewing garbage and lies on their media. The truth is that Healthcare works in other coutries and not here because of the greedy insurance lobby and the stupidity of the public. Travel to Europe and see for yourself, get treatment in the UK and see how much it costs as opposed to here. Americans are isolated and ignorant that is why these stupid arguments work! It will be a fight to finish as far as I am concerned and the studpidity does not work any on more and more people as time goes by, and people learn the truth for a change. Everyone in the UK has universal health care paid for by deductions from their paychecks, but not here in the land of greed! They are covered whether they are working or not..as opposed to here in this confused society where there are people begging in the streets and living outside all over town. This is a moral issue now, not just the money, and it will be solved. When Michael Moore tells his story his is not totally objective...just as the fear mongers are not objective. Tit for Tat. Fair play. Mr Potter is touring the USA speaking at rallies, more power to him. Revealing the cheating insurance lobby is an admirable cause. Mr mouthpiece, George Bush, the sows ear made into a pig purse, mouthed so many untruths and distortions of the New World Order ...the Illuminati....he has to be countered at last.

First of all, rcoones, your openning comments about health care are simply a regurgitation of the same old DNC pablum they've been spewing for weeks. " ... on our for profit and corrupt Health Insurance system. We need to overhaul our healthcare system now because so many Americans are not covered and the whole host of other abuses that occur everyday in this country." Wow, how dramatic. Secondly, using Bill Moyers and PBS as objective information sources is about as bad as using Fox News. Moyers and PBS are as slanted as they come. Thirdly, I assume that the esteemed Mr. Potter, who sacrificed his job at CIGNA, is not homeless. Who's he working for now? How about "The Center for Media and Democracy." Although they claim to be non-partisan, below is a list of some of the books published by their staff. Not hard to see where they're coming from. %u25E6The Best War Ever: Lies, Damned Lies and the Mess in Iraq %u25E6Trust Us, We're Experts: How Industry Manipulates Science and Gambles With Your Future %u25E6Weapons of Mass Deception: The Uses of Propaganda in Bush's War on Iraq %u25E6Banana Republicans: How the Right Wing is Turning America Into a One-Party State
