My son, nephew and I were on the back deck cleaning up the paper air planes we were flying down into the pasture. The light from the north caught my eye and I observed the object coming through the cloud cover. The object was moving at jet speed - it was a fireball. At first I thought I was watching an aircraft burn up or very large meteor. But the craft continually slowed up yet maintained its spherical glow and straight line, the light - fire went out and then the craft turned to the west-south-west and disappeared from view behind the trees/hill. After the light went out the object was black and did not appear to be round but more angular. After I first observed the object I alerted my son and nephew to it. They pulled out a camera and cell phone respectively and started recording the event. I rushed and got my family out to see it too. Please see the video links as follows: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5p-6Qfz9xs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFJh0lmIAr8 We have the original camera files and can upload at a future date. Some interesting tidbits: The fireball came from the north in a straight line in a parallel direction to the north western side of the house. There was thick cloud cover (details can be obtained through ABE logs of the cloud ceiling). There was no observed trail of falling debris nor was there any sound. If you missed the fireball in the 2 + minutes observed you most likely would have missed this event. All together there were 8 other observers plus myself. What does an atmospheric type of break without any sound, change direction and appear to head off at the same altitude (under the cloud ceiling)?
