Nice question to explore. If you have Google Earth, open it and go to coordinates: S 16°23'24'' W 71°06'36'' It's a lake near Arequipa, Ceneguillas and Ancasi (south Peru). Can pixelation do this effect? I don't think so.

This is not pixelation, mountains around are not pixelated and the photo of lakes have high enough resolution.Just have a look at Google Earth. It is amazing view :) There is coordinates: 14 54´ 00.15" S 69 10´57.79" W Now is there only short higher resolution piece of photo, but still you can see the buildings under water.
