Yeah, those recorded screams sound just like that. I have heard that sort of scream on occasion in the woods here in WV. While I have never seen anything...I have heard brush breaking and heard dogs absolutely go nuts after hearing those screams! I can only tell you that if you ever hear that scream in the wild where the decibal level is proper..it will put goosebumps on your flesh! Just something about that siren-sounding wail that is both lonely and scary! One of the weirdest feelings that I have ever experienced in my 40 years on this earth. I think they are becoming extinct and if we dont get proof in the next 5-8 years,I think we may never catch or see one alive. i believe that during the late 60's and early 70's they were thriving in the woods of northwestern U.S and British Columbia, however, with the constant invasion by man..their ranks have thinned and they have been forced to migrate to the east and south. Still, the majority are in California,Oregon and Washington, but i do believe that there may be a few in WV,Ohio and the swamplands of a few southern states and scattered here and there throughout the midwest. I believe that in the 70's there may have been as many as 2-3 thousand. I think that number may be 3-5 hundred now.
