PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - As a tsunami barreled toward the coast of Hawaii Friday morning, one of the people running for higher ground was 'Ghost Hunter' Jason Hawes.
The devastating earthquake and tsunami first hit in Japan overnight and caused a ripple effect - sparking several other tsunami warnings in Hawaii and areas along the U.S. West Coast.
By 8 a.m., Tsunami waves reaching nearly six feet slammed some areas of Hawaii.

Rhode Island native Jason Hawes, of "Ghost Hunters", called in to "The Rhode Show" on Fox Providence Friday morning from Oahu, Hawaii.
Hawes says he and his crew were told to move to higher ground as the tsunami approached their area.
"It's definitely a scary thing," said Hawes, "It's not something Rhode Islanders are used to...This island is about the size of Rhode Island, and there's not really many high spots you can go to, and the thing is, it may only be a six foot wave, but it's a six foot wall that just pushes and pushes."
Hawes also says police are doing a great job keeping things under control, and people are taking the warning very seriously.
