Two F-35B test aircraft, BF-2 and BF-4, operate from USS WASP (LHD-1) during ship suitability testing in October, 2011. The B variant for the US Marine Corps has short takeoff/vertical landing (STOVL) capabilities so it can operate off of amphibious assault ships like USS WASP.
