US Apache chopper slams into snow in Afghanistan

A dramatic video showing an AH-64 Apache US army helicopter slamming into the ground in Afghanistan has been released by Military.com. Army officials are now looking for the person who filmed and posted the clip.

The crash occurred as the giant copter was flying very low over a military outpost in Sar Howzah, Paktika province, on February 6. It crashed after attempting a steep turn and nearly clipping the top of a building. It apparently flies close to the camera before crashing, but the footage remains steady.

The US Department of Defense newspaper reported the accident occurred when two helicopters were conducting overwatch for patrols picking up air-dropped supplies. One of the machines went down and crashed into a snowy landing zone.

Incredibly, the two-man crew survived and no one on the ground was injured.

Rumors spread online the pilots may be facing criminal charges as the $20 million chopper was totaled, but the military has not confirmed that.

A former Marine Corps pilot told ABC News it looked like the pilot lost control while performing risky, low-level maneuvers for spectators.
