A passenger on Australian airline Qantas found an unwelcome surprise in her in-flight snack.

After thinking her trail mix tasted strange, Daily Mail reports the 42-year-old mother turned her overhead light on to discover maggots inside the packet.

The passenger -- Victoria Cleven — even uploaded a video of the slimy snack to YouTube.

Ten News Australia spoke to Cleven — who says at first she didn't realize what was happening.

"As I was eating it I thought there was hair or something in my mouth, and it just, I don't know, there was something not quite right."

Cleven was on a flight from Los Angeles to Melbourne when the incident occurred. Australia's Yahoo! 7 News says the company that manufactures the airline snacks is avoiding the blame.

"The company that makes the Australian made trail mix, Sydney Biscuit Company, says the responsibility is with Qantas. Qantas has apologised to Ms Cleven and offered to pay $700 of her $1600 flight, but she says that's not good enough."

Sky News says Cleven's 15-year-old son checked another two packets of the trail mix and found maggots in them. Qantas is working with the snack-makers to figure out how this could have happened.
