"Hundreds of protesters had to sit for hours on the cold ground waiting to be taken to the police temporary detention.

Now criticism is directed against the massive police operation.

968 people were arrested during the demonstrations in connection with the climate summit in Copenhagen on Saturday. Police and protesters hit late in the evening together again at a demonstration was to show support for the nearly 1 000 people arrested during the day. Dissatisfaction with police action was heavy large among the demonstrators.

- There were lots of young people and ordinary people who were arrested. Is it fair to arrest 300 people in three or 12 have been throwing stones or bottles? Says a witness to Eksta blade.

Had to sit on the ground
Several of those arrested was placed by police on the tarmac waiting to be brought to the temporary custody of Valby as protesters call the "prison environment". Many were hurt in the joints of the cold and some of those who had been refused to go to the toilet, peed on himself, the newspaper Berlingske.

Police chief Per Larsen told the newspaper that he was sorry if some innocent people have "been with" in mass arrests, but that it was necessary to have a rapid and consistent effort.

On Saturday evening, about 200 demonstrators marched together against the Valby district where they broke through police cordons to demonstrate. According to one activist sites had the protesters with their signs saying "Free all political prisoners".

Smashed windows
Most of the demonstrators were recovered at Amagerbrogade in Copenhagen at the 15:30 time. The police may, with the support of a new law to detain people who might threaten the regime. The law gives police powers to detain people for up to 12 hours without a suspicion of crime.

According to the police arrested the 15-times more people who were masked and had thrown stones and fireworks. In the same group of people had smashed windows and behaved messy.

"As background to the decision to detain the violent group of demonstrators was also a greater account of the great popular demonstration should not be disturbed by people with another agenda," the police said in a statement.

"It's a shame"
Later arrested another 55 people who had set fire to four cars parked in the vicinity of Christiania. The group threw stones and fired fireworks at police.

Criticism has been leveled against the police because they have allowed hundreds of people sitting for hours on the cold ground. One of them is a Swedish artist Julie Leonardsson from Kopparberg.

- I believe that these arrests are a disgrace, it was an overreaction. I do not understand why I would be arrested, "he told Ekstra Bladet.

He had to sit in jail for two hours outside before he was released.

- I saw no one near me who hid his face or anything else that may have been due to a mass arrest, "he said.

Gertrud Larsson joined in the march with his cousin. She did not see any violence.

- It is absurd that the police have arrested so many people. You can not arrest 1,000 people for throwing a bottle. It seems that this is a total overreaction. The demonstration was peaceful and everything went quiet for, "she says.

The police explained their actions with the large group of detainees led to some difficulties for the police to catch all to keep the temporary custody of the Valby and that was why the detainees had to sit on the ground."

Fake?

Uh, it happened, unless we're finally at the point where nothing is real, all news is fake, all science is bogus, all rational thought is suspect.

It sure seems that way around here sometimes.

What I find interesting about the article is that there is no mention of the protesters' agenda or demands.

No no no THIS is real scary, non-violent protestors being arrested because a few of them were violent, think about it, they are "attacking" the whole group. . where have we seen this before in history... Russia, Germany, China.....

I have been searching thru articles but they dont say, its just something about the climate summit that they disaprove of, geuss its something "green peaceish". but it could be (which i hope) that they want the truth regarding the climate scandal, the so called "climategate". this really says something about the media and how easy it is for them to angle things and putting the lid on.

Amazing how the words of the few can influence the many.

Innit.

I'd suggest that they are protesting against war, famine, exploitation etc. The climategate thing is just one of a much longer list of grievances. It always happens these days when there is a big summit - heads get cracked and arrests made.
