Rent comes generally at the beginning, or end of the month, some other arrangements could be made. Tho in most cases this is not the case.

Is this a rental threw a large company? or an individual? If an individual, is it someone we know personally? It would seem a personal acquaintance since it is the next morning, that the rent is to be paid.. is the proximity of Christmas a consideration of the landlord?
