Four Israelis were shot dead tonight near a Jewish settlement on the outskirts of the turbulent West Bank city of Hebron, on the eve of the first face-to-face talks between Israel and the Palestinians for more than 20 months.

Gunmen opened fire on a car on a main road close to Hebron, according to the Israeli military. Unconfirmed reports said that all the victims were from the same family, and included a pregnant woman.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility. A military spokeswoman said the army was at the scene, evacuating the bodies, and that soldiers were searching the area.

Hebron, a turbulent city in which a core of hardline ideological Jewish settlers are protected by hundreds of Israeli troops, has been the scene of numerous violent attacks from both sides of the conflict.

The attack will dent hopes that peace talks, due to start in Washington with a White House dinner tomorrow, can succeed in bringing a resolution to the conflict.

I'm starting to wonder who is really who on this website, and am starting to come to the conclusion that the most extreme of the viewpoints all work for the same side. Thereby biasing anyone who has a legitimate argument to made against Israel. Well you can't lump me in with all the racists. I don't hate Jews, I hate the country of Israel because they act like assholes. They are committing ethnic cleansing in the name of their own security. They are ignoring international laws in the name of their own security. The irony of this whole god damn thing is Israel can never be secure. Their own actions in addition to the geographic location of where they decided to restart their country means you can never be secure. The Israelites lost the area for a reason which was a new faith overtook the region and the Israelites were unwilling to adapt. So they had to flee, then they come back a thousand some odd years later and expect everything to be ok. It's not, that little problem of being surrounded by a faith that would not accept you is still there. I know you have some grand delusions that somehow you will be able to conquer all the Muslims, but you can't. And every act of violence that is being perpetrated towards that end is nudging you just a little closer to your own destruction. It sucks I understand your homeland was conquered all those years ago, well so have a lot of civilizations on this planet and there is nothing that makes you that special. So now you've gotten yourself back into the same situation you were in way back then, and you incessantly complain about your security and use it as a defense for committing atrocious acts. I wonder how much longer you will be able to deceive the world that you are the victim here?
