DEVELOPING: A tsunami watch as been issued by the Pacific Tsunamic Warning Center Wednesday after a major earthquake in Costa Rica, Reuters reports.

A powerful, magnitude-7.6 earthquake has shaken Costa Rica, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.T here are no immediate accounts of damage or injuries.

The USGS said the quake struck offshore, about 50 miles from the town of Liberia.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has issued a tsunami alert for a number of Pacific coastline states, after a 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck 8 kilometers off the coast of Costa Rica. The quake hit close to Samara, a coastal area on the Pacific some 151 kms from the capital, San Jose. Some parts of the capital have lost power, but so far, no casualties have been reported.
