hi all my bro sent me this poem someone had sent him written by a soldier and it it touched me,so like it says at the bottom i thought i would share it with u all (wasn't sure what part of the forum to post it in sorry)

T'WAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS,
HE LIVED ALL ALONE,
IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE,
MADE OF PLASTER AND STONE.

I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY,
WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE,
AND TO SEE JUST WHO,
IN THIS HOME, DID LIVE.

I LOOKED ALL ABOUT,
A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE,
NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS,
NOT EVEN A TREE.

NO STOCKING BY MANTLE,
JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND,
ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES,
OF FAR DISTANT LANDS.

WITH MEDALS AND BADGES,
AWARDS OF ALL KINDS,
A SOBER THOUGHT,
CAME THROUGH MY MIND.

FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT,
IT WAS DARK AND DREARY,
I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER,
ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY.

THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING,
SILENT, ALONE,
CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR,
IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME.

THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE,
THE ROOM IN DISORDER,
NOT HOW I PICTURED,
A TRUE BRITISH SOLDIER.

WAS THIS THE HERO,
OF WHOM I'D JUST READ?
CURLED UP ON A PONCHO,
THE FLOOR FOR A BED?

I REALISED THE FAMILIES,
THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT,
OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS,
WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT.

SOON ROUND THE WORLD,
THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY,
AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE,
A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY.

THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM,
EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR,
BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS,
LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE.

I COULDN'T HELP WONDER,
HOW MANY LAY ALONE,
ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE,
IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME.

THE VERY THOUGHT BROUGHT,
A TEAR TO MY EYE,
I DROPPED TO MY KNEES,
AND STARTED TO CRY.

THE SOLDIER AWAKENED,
AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE,
"SANTA DON'T CRY,
THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE;

I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM,
I DON'T ASK FOR MORE,
MY LIFE IS MY GOD,
MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS.."

THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER,
AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP,
I COULDN'T CONTROL IT,
I CONTINUED TO WEEP.

I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS,
SO SILENT AND STILL,
AND WE BOTH SHIVERED,
FROM THE COLD NIGHT'S CHILL.

I DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE,
ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT,
THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR,
SO WILLING TO FIGHT.

THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER,
WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE,
WHISPERED, "CARRY ON SANTA,
IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE."

ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH,
AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT.
"MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND,
AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT."

This poem was written by a Peacekeeping soldier stationed overseas. The
following is his request. I think it is reasonable

PLEASE. Would you do me the kind favour of sending this to as many people as
you can? Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to all of the
service men and women for our being able to celebrate these festivities. Let's
try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. Make people stop and
think of our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed themselves for us.
Please, do your small part to plant this small seed

I do like a bit of poetry - thanks Andyg2011 :flop:

Here's one I like about the Christmas truce of 1914, when during the first world war, a small amount of sanity suddenly broke out amongst the warring soldiers at Christmas time.

"In Flanders on the Christmas morn
The trenched foemen lay,
the German and the Briton born,
And it was Christmas Day.

The red sun rose on fields accurst,
The gray fog fled away;
But neither cared to fire the first,
For it was Christmas Day!

They called from each to each across
The hideous disarray,
For terrible has been their loss:
"Oh, this is Christmas Day!"

Their rifles all they set aside,
One impulse to obey;
'Twas just the men on either side,
Just men — and Christmas Day.

They dug the graves for all their dead
And over them did pray:
And Englishmen and Germans said:
"How strange a Christmas Day!"

Between the trenches then they met,
Shook hands, and e'en did play
At games on which their hearts were set
On happy Christmas Day.

Not all the emperors and kings,
Financiers and they
Who rule us could prevent these things —
For it was Christmas Day.

Oh ye who read this truthful rime
From Flanders, kneel and say:
God speed the time when every day
Shall be as Christmas Day."

Frederick Niven (1878-1944)

Conspiracy note: This poem was apparently written in 1918 (the last year of the war) and did anyone notice these lines:

"Not all the emperors and kings,
Financiers and they
Who rule us could prevent these things"

I think some people really knew who was behind the war - even then.

Good one, :flop:

What a stomach churning piece of propaganda.

Bombing goat herds with drones & allowing the opium production to reach all time highs !

Dear soldier, if you want to go off on some stupid adventure to support the directors & share holders of arms manufacturers please don't come back & bleat about how much you suffered, you weren't drafted, you chose to go, and it has sod all to do with our safety & freedom.

Well, for a start they would have a lot less immigrants, thats a fact.

Less of our taxes would be wasted on pointless wars without end, you do know that every war in recent history was started on a lie or 'false flag' ?

Can anyone tell me one time that the USA has had an outside/ foreign force detonate one single bomb (or similar) on the mainland in 100 years with the exception of that Jap balloon bomb in WW2 ?

Likewise name one terrorist organisation other than the IRA that has killed anyone in the UK ?

No ? Exactly, the best that can be said for the army is that it gets kids from deprived areas off the street.

The real tragedy starts way before any shots are fired, which is the ignorance that these people have grown up in, fostered over generations by corporations & their government lackeys, which when coupled with the indoctrinated BS of "patriotism" becomes a total delusion.

What is happening now is exactly the same as what happened in Germany in the 30s, and this lachrymose doggerel is all part of the mindscaping.

Manipulation by emotions is the key to this, it is irrelevant how intelligent you are, if someone has not mastered their own emotions, then thinking for your self is impossible.

I guess you mean in a historical context..yeah that works..like if it had been found on an old piece of parchment from the Spartans or the Romans-some romantic context type thing..the 'universal soldier'
