I have let my service provider know about this and they are currently tracing it

I have had words with corn on many occasions, and there is a lot of weird activity on this site, if this is true it would be disappointing. However I would also like to add that, it would be a stupid move to make considering the attacker would have a knowledge of how to do it and also know how easy it is to trace. And also that there are people on here who have a vast knowledge of computers and how to use them.

I hope it is not true. I will go with the innocent until proven guilty moto for now.

If your provider is tracing, then I am sure the guilty party will be found, as they are hard to pull the wool over. Whoever did it, will certainly have questions to answer, and the old "i am on unprotected wireless I don't know who did it but it wasn't me trick, wont cut it"

Hopefully it has nothing to do with Disclose TV as something like that would have a damaging effect on the community.

From reading articles on the subject, it only takes one hacker with access to a sophisticated botnet to launch such a DOS. The USA and other intelligence communities seem to own all of these botnets. So proving and convicting the criminals responsible will be very difficult as you will have to conduct your own investigation and tieing it to the person you accuse even more so considering if he is responsible it is probably only indirectly and he would have made a phone call or sent an IM or IRC chat message to a third party with resources to do such an attack. Then there could still be a long chain of handing off of the job to the actual attacker. Gathering proof such as IPs or some sort of log activity would be helpful as a start or asking the ISP to help might gather some evidence. Difficult. As for the question of: Are there hacking groups run by intelligence outfits with these resources participating in big conspiracies? Yes.
