Ok, as bad as the internet has gotten regarding privacy, personal freedoms (I hate the ads!) etc and as bad as the MSM is for getting news, and with the governments of the world cracking down on EVERYTHING, is there a real alternative for sharing information outside the internet? Once, I heard of a project some people were doing that would create a sort of de-centralized network of computers that could be used, but I don't remember anything about it.

I suppose you could set up an intranet.

That way you would only be using the phone lines as a carrier.

Don't really now how it works but we have one at work.

not unless you setup your own fiber/cable lines. or buy them from the companies.

badger- thats an intranet, you could set one up but its only accessible from your work place/home and can only access the computers in the building not outside of it... unless.. you have the internet/your own lines to other locations

OK, maybe.

But I work for a company that has facilities in various countries all over the world and we have an intranet(as i said in my first post) that only uses the phone lines as a carrier. You cannot acess it via the web. you need to be a a facillity terminal.

Back in the days before the internet I was using Fido net (1979-89). It was a dailup based Network that linked BBS 's (Bulletin Board systems). So the software is already out there, now you need to get people used to the 56k dialup speeds.
