One of the comments that caught my eye.
That definitely rates a 9.0 on my weird shit-o-meter...

Just gonna take a stab at this, but to me it looks like a transformer blowing out in the distance.

Several times and with such light intensity that it lights up half the sky?

I'm a skeptic at heart but this vid gives me probs as well.

I would sooner believe its some freak lightning that is localized to some distant (broken) power line hitting it multiple times.
The light colour could be explained by differing metals being burned in the process.

Video was dated the same as this news article.
June 11, 2008, New Jersey, also the same place as in video.
Looks like it was a big storm.

Well offcourse it was a storm. It is clearly seen in the video.

But within that storm there are some weird elements present I should say.

Yup tis a transformer and not the kind in the movie...see how the power goes out? They are really cool when they blow up!

Yup! I think it is a trasformer too,I saw one burn with a similar point of view last week and it was HUGE and colourful!
