Feb. 26 (Bloomberg) -- The U.S. Army is giving away 13,000 armored trucks, worth about $500,000 each. The 20-ton MRAPs, or Mine-Resistant Ambush-Protected trucks, were built specifically to save U.S. soldiers from roadside bombs in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Now the trucks are patrolling U.S. city streets. U.S. law enforcement agencies have received the lion’s share of this high-powered military surplus. (Source: Bloomberg)

How can civilians with rifles go up against this?

Excellent find Noentry!!!! :flop:

Despite the fact that the military gives away BILLIONS in hardware, it's terribly unfunny that the recent spate of "donations" is going to the local law enforcement.

WTF would the police need an IED proof, armored, 5-mpg-rolling-tank, unless someone fears something soon.

Too many questions and damn sure no where near enough answers.

Cheers buddy

How can civilians with rifles go up against them? They can't. That's the point.

A lot of it is good old boy stupidity, wanting to have toys like the big boys. After 9-11, so much "Homeland security" money was allocated to police departments to "upgrade" their gear. If they didn't spend that money, they wouldn't get it in the budget next year. (This is the case with most government agencies, and is behind a lot of the WHY are they buying massive quantities of x?! hysteria.) My hometown, population 3000 people, got one of those stupid giant tank trucks a few years ago. They'll NEVER need it, realistically, barring the zombie apocalypse. But they had the money for it, and it looks real nice parked out front of the cop shop. I'm sure officer Bubba gets a half chub every time he goes out and washes it in the driveway.

Cops two counties away, in a similarly small and sleepy town, are talking about buying their very own drone. I give them six months before some dumbass redneck crashes it in a cornfield.

Also, the US military has spent FAT BANK buying all this shit for a war that is supposedly going to end soon, and an impending troop drawdown that is going to potentially lower the military numbers to a level not seen since before WWII. They've got to do something with all their toys…god knows the defense contractors who are getting rich off the "war on terror" aren't going to close down the factories and stop making the things.
Remember, in a real conspiracy, all players are pawns regardless of their rank.

Thanks Evil.

We are but a small step from fully militarized civil police force.
The Uk is not far behind the US in this department.
