Scientists at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory are tracking an asteroid that is expected to come within less than 8,000 miles of Earth today. Researchers at the center have seen just four other asteroids pass closer than the rock dubbed Asteroid 2011 MD. It will be visible in the sky around 1 p.m. EST, but if you miss it, don't fret; it will be back in 2022.
