Great post :flop:

I can't get enough of this stuff. I've been watching Museum Secrets for the last few months. Antiquity certainly does have it's share of secrets.

When I think about how good Greek sculptures are then I look at the realism that these statues demonstrate (for want of a better word) I'm amazed how perfect the symmetry is. What can you say but fantastic.
I question everything. I don't believe anything I'm told or anything I see. Prove it, or fuck off. And that's not me I see in the mirror in the morning.

Not only the symmetry but how they are immaculately well preserved

The God Horus was a human with the head of a falcon

If you like that one, you should get a look at King Tut's father...

Akhenaten..

Nothing unusual about the shape of this dude's head at all...

Image

The list of peculiarities is lengthy: an elongated skull, long neck, sunken eyes, thick thighs, long fingers, backward-turned knee joints, a prominent belly that suggests pregnancy and female-like breasts. The first thing that is strange is his elongated skull, and in all of the statues and depictions of him, we see this elongated skull.

Pharaohs are depicted as these triangular shaped beings, strong shoulders and these very skinny waists, so basically they were depicted as being strong, like heroes, this would reflect power and it was very important but Akhenaten would go on and shows himself as he really was. His wife Nefertiti was also depicted as having a elogated skull.

According to writings by Akhenaten and poems that were written about him later on, he was visited by beings that descended from the sky. :look:

It was he himself who started the age they call Aten and promoted this ideology of there being only One god. :geek:

In the reign of Amenhotep III’s successor, Amenhotep IV or Akhenaten, the Aten became the central god of Egyptian state religion, Amenhotep IV changed his name to Akhenaten to reflect his close link with his new supreme deity.

After his reign the city of Amarna was abandoned and temples to the sun were destroyed, images of Akhenaten were deliberately defaced and Ancient Egypt rapidly “recovered” and returned to its old ways, worshiping many gods.

Today, many Egyptologists believe that Akhenaten was actually forced to abdicate and flee from Egypt with his loyal followers... <-- Sound familiar?

Akhenaten claimed, “There is only one god, my father. I can approach him by day and by night.” :headscratch:
I have waited for thy salvation, O'Lord!

Cracking find Chilli :flop:

That statue of the King is awesome and was 'carved' thousands of years ago?

Its seems to give off a sense of power and mystery, even now.

I'm gonna look up more on Ancient Egyptian sculpture and its meaning.

I found this statue and it's just just incredible, the face is an expression of knowledge and wisdom(IMO) and look at the date is was carved! - Really early in Dynastic Egypt, it's almost if the scribe is alive again and waiting to write.

Image
Image
"Egyptian statue of the Scribe (the 4th Dynasty, 2620–2500 BCE), Louvre Museum, Paris."

Now compare it to a statue of a scribe from a much LATER period 305 - 30 BC, the earlier stuff is simply light years ahead - makes a laugh of the orthodox liner history peddled by the Egyptologists!

Image
"Ancient Egyptian statue. Carved white marble seated scribe on a raised base in a long wig, short checkered kilt, raised eyebrows, an open scroll upon the lap, incised hieroglyphics to the front of the base. Ptolemaic."
