This is interesting because, I don't know if you remember, but the trials which happened in Britain were stopped and promptly swept under the carpet. I think the jinn may be out of the bottle already.

Day of the Triffids anyone?

Yeah I saw a documantary about something like this where it's slowly happening with all of the GM crops everywhere. They can't keep the GM plants seperate and can't keep them from cross contaminating with un modified crops, something about how the wind carries the spores to other crops or something. So pretty soon the natural unmodified version of the food we grow will become extinct and everything available will be only modified versions. Now what happens if the modified versions begin to break down and lose something like how a clone of a clone of a clone loses something of the original each time? We could end up in a world with only unnatural manmade GM food which may go bad on the genetic level and no way of going back to the original natural version. The whole food supply of mankind can become wiped out or become poisonous or have no nutricional value whatsoever so that people have full bellies from eating it but still die of malnutrician. That's why they should not have begun with tampering with the food supply like this, now it's out of control and can't be stopped.

The animals who eat the GM food will be affected by it which will then also affect the meat supply too. So the whole world could be plunged into a famine state even though there's "food" because it's not really food. Not the meat or the vegetables. The world will be in a famine with full bellies, malnourished & overweight, and people will become sicker from it. And no one will even have a clue that the world is in a famine and that real food is gone because when they go into grocery stores they will see things that they think is food and will eat things they think is food but has no nutricional value at all. The GM food will make people fatter and feel full but no nutricianal value at all which will make it as if they are not eating at all even though they feel full and are overweight. It will be a faminine but with overweight and full bellies. No one will know there is no real food. Look at how people seem to be sicker and sicker even though there are better and more advanced medicine and medical techniques.

Everyone better hope that the people who are genetically modifying these foods have some kind of Noah's ark type thing where they are keeping huge samples of natural unmodified seeds and crops preserved and maybe preserved animal eggs or DNA or something because when/if the whole system of modified foods fall apart, the whole planet will be messed up if there's no original natural unmodified seeds to start over with.

Norway’s international doomsday seed bank still growing
Posted on24 March 2010. Tags: global seed vault, Norway

In an isolated mountainside deep within the Norwegian tundra lies a contingency plan against the threat of global catastrophe. The so-called “doomsday vault” is a massive seed bank that, in the event of disaster, could be used to replenish and re-grow the world’s plants.

This latter day Noah’s Ark of seed specimens sits deep within the Plataberget (Plateau Mountain) close to the Svalbard village of Longyearbyen, a group of islands of the northern coast, where the seeds are preserved by natural arctic permafrost. Norway Post reports that these seeds will be used to replenish global stocks in the wake of any large-scale crisis.

The Global Crop Diversity Trust which administers the seed vault this week added new species of Russian volcanic strawberry, pink tomatoes from Germany and mould-resistant beans. The latest additions bring the Svalbard “doomsday” vault numbers to over half a million seed varieties.

“The region on Svalbard surrounding the Seed Vault is remote, severe, and inhabited by polar bears,” says the group that supports the vault operation, the Global Crop Diversity Trust. “Anyone seeking access to the seeds themselves will have to pass through four locked doors: the heavy steel entrance doors, a second door approximately 115 metres down the tunnel and finally the two keyed air-locked doors,” writes the Trust. “Keys are coded to allow access to different levels of the facility. Not all keys unlock all doors”.

While war destroyed other seed banks in Afghanistan and Iraq, the Svalbard vault is built to survive earthquakes and nuclear strikes.

It kind of reminds me of the Tower of Babel in the old testament. We're playing God here. Imagine if these modified crops were to mutate over a few generations into something the scientists didn't understand. It may sound like a scare story but if naturally produced species were wiped out there could be mass starvation; and all because some greedy businessmenn want to maximize profits. I think we should leave well alone but, unfortunately, it's not up to me.

I think it's pretty obvious that there is an active effort to destroy original seeds, but why?

Check out the Svalbard seed vault, just to add if GM seed is so great then why are they storing the organic natural seeds and not these great GM seeds?...something don't add up,for some reason there is a massive drive to get the world to accept GM,it is ludicrous only WE the consumer stand in the way, check out Robert Verkerk videos on youtube. He presents the whole GM debate excellently.

Yes, so true. Thank goodness they are storing up some natural unmodified seeds! Yeah I don't like this whole business at all.
