Bit of a touchy subject here aye?
Belief In Extraterrestrials: Science Or even a Cult Religion?
There kinds who suggest that our obsession with ancient astronauts, UFOs, SETI (determining ExtraTerrestrial Intelligence) true religion jeans sale, and the like is certainly not more than a religious fever using a different disguise. As an alternative for looking towards the heavens for salvation and ultimate truths in God, we reject God and instead we look towards the heavens and search out new intelligences and new civilizations to boldly lead us on the path to a universal brotherhood; aliens that on their eternal wisdom will demonstrate us the one true path and present us all the benefits of their experiences and knowledge, knowledge that which provides for us warp drives, a universal truth and justice, and then the golden brick road which leads towards the cosmic way (the clear way of the cosmos?).
Balderdash! Well, style of. ?
God, assuming a God, is centered on supernatural explanations for creations similar to the origin of our planet properly us.
God is supposedly about good vs. evil; heaven vs. hell, salvation vs. damnation, having a warm fuzzy eternal afterlife.
God is all about morality (never mind no His own).
We don’t look for aliens for creation mythology; the afterlife; and our moral codes.
Certainly SETI (Explore ExtraTerrestrial Intelligence) scientists really don’t sit in worship at their radio telescope cathedrals exceptional alien in the sky the build seek. Seek they’re doing, but not to worship. However, some do go just a little over-the-top in suggesting for example societies they are gonna find and consult with C it’s their version of your respective dawning of the Age of Aquarius. See below for any more elaboration.
Assuming ancient astronauts, and assuming ancient astronauts were aliens, than the peoples of those earlier period obviously worshiped said ancient astronaut aliens. However, people focused on ancient astronaut aliens today hardly worship that what takes their interest. This another facet of SETI (although traditional SETI professionals is going to be horrified at obtaining study of ancient astronauts lumped into what they do).
UFOs are slightly different kettles of fish to SETI (well, somewhat like) or ancient astronauts; different horses of many other colours. A colour C more than to most people – often is the cultist giggle factor’ or silly season’ colour. For your minority of others, well, they (cultists) have confidence on the space brothers’ and are usually called contactees plus they form various – for not having enough a better phrase – Modern themed UFO societies. They certainly do indeed worship, if not quite as gods, at least as ultra advanced supreme beings, who, for everyone practical purposes are as close to godlike and perfect as makes no odds. All is peace and harmony and enlightenment and utopia and ideal health and beauty and eternal rainbows in and also on the worlds (including Venus and Saturn, etc.) of this space brothers’. The space brothers” collectively make even our most saintly of saints looks like hardened criminals behind bars if not on death row!
UFO space brother’ contactees or cultists often preached’ their sermons of gloom and doom and gives salvation and enlightenment at the great unwashed over the messages they conveyed from those uppity-up pure-in-heart-and-mind aliens. Somehow the place brothers’ offered us the person true pathway free from our destruction, often literally, like for example the end of the world.
If We some $$$ for every time the close of the world had been predicted, lets just say my bank manager also, the tax office would both be pleased. I’m sure not a year goes by, probably not even a month, without someone (never by any means UFO cultists) calling aloud and clear the sky is falling; the conclusion is here; prepare in order to thy doom’.? For those misguided beings having one such ever ongoing prophecy seriously, this may, I guess, be more logical to place your salvation eggs in a extraterrestrial basket carried around by UFOs. There’s much more evidence for the UFO ETH (ExtraTerrestrial Hypothesis) than for God. God wasn’t seen (for at least 4000 years or possibly even longer) cheap designer jeans, tracked on radar, left physical trace marks on kinds of living conditions, nor has He been filmed or photographed.
But a number of these New Age Themed UFO societies can certainly be hazardous to your health. The Heaven’s Gate group in 1997 would hitch a ride within this UFO concealed inside of the Hale-Bopp Comet as it swung all over the Sun. There was one catch however – getting from terrestrial ground zero, to Hale-Bopp, you have to do yourself a fatal mischief. As stated by the “M*A*S*H” theme song, suicide maybe painless but it is still suicide. [There are already several other instances of mass suicide associated with the membership of religious cults C the Branch Davidians (Waco true religion jeans outlet, Texas) and followers of Jim Jones and his awesome People's Temple (Guyana) C yet these had nothing to do with aliens.]
Other Modern themed UFO societies substantial investment harmless to your physical health (unsure about your mental health however), exactly like the Unarius [Educational Foundation] Society; the Etherean Society; the Aetherius Society, and dozens more, both minor and major.
It has got to be said that real UFO investigators dislike these cultists for muddying the UFO waters and turning what has to be serious study correct joke within the larger general community. Riding in your racially pure white space brothers’ in UFOs to visit their home worlds (which either nobody has ever heard of or which scientists have proven to be hellish enough, way beyond incompetent at supporting complex life) and delivering their Modern age words of cosmic truth and wisdom is likely to generate a lot more column inches in your tabloids than serious investigations will in your major metropolitan press.
Fortunately, these contactees, and also the New Age contactee movement were primarily a 1950′s fad. While you’ll discover those still around, they wil take advantage of little real impact or influence today. However, their damage happens to be done, and the UFO field aren’t able to totally shake off their immense contribution for your UFO silly season’ giggle’ factor. ?
In general however, serious UFO investigators taking the phenomena, well, seriously, most probably do not worship whatever aliens, if any, may pilot said UFOs. I’ve never seen any evidence that UFO investigators are any different from the general population by way of religious affiliation or church attendance.
However, organ of the overall perception problem doesn’t lie solely with UFO contactees spreading the word about their space brothers’. Some of the aliens as the new religion’ perception must rest by of the more serious scientist alien hunters’ seeking out new intelligent life forms and their civilizations.
Some of these scientists are partly the reason for this mythology citing being a rational, caught up of their enthusiasm, for their SETI quest, that contact and communication with extraterrestrial intelligence can lead to a Golden Age where we’d be given the Encyclopaedia Galactica, solution for cancer, and pollution free energy. We can, by being their own perfect example, show us tips for preventing war and nuclear Armageddon; impart us with the ways and methods for achieving global peace and disarmament C double balderdash, squared (well, kind). It’s almost a (albeit slightly tuned down) version with the messages contactees spread.
Personally, I can’t think aliens are going to lift us up by our bootstraps C now we have to do that, all by our lonesome. So, whether it be contactees and New Age UFO Cult societies or SETI scientists promoting the salivation-from-the-skies guidelines to help justify their work, it’s, IMHO, pure pie-in-the-sky wishful thinking.
What of the general public? There will be widespread interest in, and have confidence on the existence of, advanced extraterrestrial life. Does that mean that millions are leaving their religion; not attending church, instead setting up telescopes at home or go UFO hunting? The facts may be out there, however seriously doubt its any threat with the idea to organised religion or people’s supernaturally-themed religious convictions.
Okay, so balderdash (well kind) aside, yes, you will find some truth at the perception that belief in aliens might be taken as a style of religion, well quasi-religion, however see no real evidence in which is in any way detracting from societies’ established supernatural-based religions. I imagine a lot of us believe in both aliens and God. Two of the aren’t mutually exclusive. Lots of people believe in God, not aliens. Others, like me, suggest aliens are infinitely more a probable viability compared to a supernatural creator God.
Finally, any organisation seeking to claim aliens as the centrepiece of that church’ is going to find getting those standard religious tax concessions rather hard to come by!
At least believers in aliens lack a history of imprisoning, torturing, murdering or executing, exiling, ridiculing true religion wholesale, etc. previously interests and beliefs a lot more focused in a down-to-earth direction. Alien hunters don’t demand you have some of your private parts snipped off or that you have to observe various foods, dress, period of day/day of week, sexual a different personal relationship ritual do’s and don’ts. SETI scientists do not thou shall or shall not’ demands; ufologists demand no animal sacrifices or attendance at Sunday weekly UFO conventions. There isn’t any such a thing as an infallible alien bible. No hymns are sung in praise of ET. It’s not essential to, every hour at the hour, face toward the constellation of Orion, bow down, allow thanks to the Chancellor of the Klingon Empire for the very existence. And nobody wears the Southern Cross about the chain around their neck.
SETI scientists don’t are involved in a Holy War against UFO buffs or vice versa; ancient astronauts enthusiasts don’t hold an Inquisition against SETI scientists or the opposite way round; UFO buffs would not have Crusades against those who like the thought that ancient aliens assisted a fledging human race thousands of years ago or the opposite way round. Alien hunters won’t always be one happy family, but in comparison to organised religion(s).
Also, alien hunters don’t go doorknocking needing to convert the unbelievers!
Alas, alien hunters won’t discover heaven (not that there’s definitely such a place) by discovering ET, but more than they won’t go to hell (no such place either) on condition that they don’t! There is no 11th Commandment much like Thou shall seek out my other creations of the firmament’; nor a 12th, Thou shall not worship my other creations one of many firmament’!
Absolutely finally, if aliens would be the new religion, well, they also have light years left going before overtaking God, and Company as the force to be reckoned with.
But wait C an afterthought. Popularity isn’t the same thing as worship or belief, in terms of perceptions for this God vs. alien possibilities true religion jeans cheap, despite church attendance, we probably spend more time interacting with aliens than with God C for more interacts with God the least bit. Of course unless you are knowledgeable astrobiologist or SETI scientist or even an avid ufologist or one regarding UFO abductees, you probably don’t relate with real aliens (or the notion of real aliens) either. However, over a period of time, we seem to be exposed more for that concept of extraterrestrials than things Biblical; more often as not through films and Tv. Certainly the amount of shelf space in booksellers and libraries (home together with public) devoted to aliens (usually sci-fi primarily) vis–vis the section about religion C well, the diet buy and read sci-fi than study their, or even, religion. I know the Beatles got into hot water for claiming these folks more popular than JC, but I’d bet a TV series featuring aliens gets higher ratings than a single featuring Christianity.

i'll go one step further belief itself in anything can be a form of religion, belief in aliens, ghost, bigfoot, life after death, whatever you believe in if you are biased and don't question your beliefs, and say amen to everything, than you will be enslaved by your beliefs, and become a fanatic. The same thing applies to religion and politics, you gotta question everything always.

Don't try to troll me 'coz you're going straight to my ignore list.
Yeah Fat1, me cool. Shit weather round our neck of the woods ain't it. That pint is probably flat now.
There are a few theories that suggest a belief in ET is, for some, just a more plausible, or sometimes hip, way of believing in a supreme power, a new religion if you will.
I ain't one of these people by the way.

anybody that makes it there religion are, ill say it are dummies running in circles... just because someone comes in a flying saucer dosent mean he's god...
when man held a branch with fire i bet all the others started to worship him as something "special"... who is god ? there is no REAL proof that can live up to are modern age..... holly texts and books? if u burn them all up whats so holly about them people would forget just like the rest of the religions.....
Seek for knowledge and truth - dont worship shit you dont fully understand,

God then is just a label... a term we use to identify the subject matter.
I agree that just because someone/thing has greater abilities, this does not make them anything other than a being with altered abilities. This is why I say that I personally believe in beings with abilities that we cannot understand, however, a God (man with white beard living in the sky watching our everymove and planning our ultimate doom/salvation) does not exist.
Extraterrestrial belief can only be considered a religion if belief in it is followed religiously. We all know what it takes to be religious, commitment, unwaivering resolution in the face of adversity, denial, unquestionable faith, belief in unproven and improbable myth, popularist convictions, congregation, comminality and a sence of belonging etc. Now we also know what it takes to be a believer in extra terrestrials; thirst for real knowledge, constant questioning, search for truth, sorting fact from fiction, unpopular convictions, smaller congregations, reliance on self..etc
Sure there are extremes and there are other factors at play, my point being that the two are quite different in context, the only cominality is the fact that they are both beliefs, albeit one is open for questioning, the other prevents questioning.
The only time belief in extraterrestrials will ever assume a place amongst religion is when people start congregating withour fear of ridicule, they stop searching and simply follow the status quo.. ie, when people become sheep.. this is when we will have a new religion.
My opinion of course...

Aliens dont want to be worshipped, that is a human trait, religion is a way of being fanatical, no one these days with a sound mind can honestly say they are religious about anything, can they ?
