The state of Illinois will begin using photo radar in freeway work zones in July. One mile per hour over the speed limit and the machine will get you a nice $375.00 ticket in the mail. Beginning July 1st, the State of Illinois will begin using the speed cameras in areas designated as "Work Zones" on major freeways. Anyone caught by these devices will be mailed a $375.00 ticket for the FIRST offense. The SECOND offense will cost $1000.00 and comes with a 90-Day suspension. Drivers will also receive demerit points against their license, which allows insurance companies to raise Insurance rates.

This is the harshest penalty structure ever set for a governmental unit involving PHOTO speed enforcement. The State already has two camera vans on line issuing tickets 24/7 in work zones with speed limits lowered to 45 MPH. Photos of both the Driver's face and License plate are taken.

HOLY SHIT!

Damn im glad to live in a place where photo tickets are not even moving violations..they are civil penalties, with no repercussions for refusing to pay them. And they are so faulty that several communities are fighting their use..and winning.. The tickets here are $75, and no warrants are issued if you dont pay.

In one community of 36,000, they had issued 47,000 tickets.
The ENTIRE community refused to pay after several organized Town Hall Meetings, and the company that suplies them are basically being run out of town.

Wow...Bummer Dom..bummer..

On 294, they are doing construction until summer 2010. I'm F***ed. I definately have a "lead foot." Dom, what about when construction is not happening? Like Sundays and evenings, etc. Does the speed go back to normal? Or do they F*** you then too?

we have fixed peneltys fines for some speeding offences and some are delt with at court and those fines vary also it depends on what police force area that your in some have a zero tolerance to speeding and some cameras are set exactly to the speed limit ,fixed penelty start at 60 POUNDS but court fines can be up to 1000 plus also you get points on you driveing licence 12 points and you lose your licence and the average is 3 to 6 points for speeding sometimes more depending on the force area

I have a friend who lives in phoenix and they have the most traffic cameras in the country. They've actually reduced the penalties for for getting too many tickets so they can continue to issue them without anyone losing their license...........I think that is how she explained it anyway.

well you know the state or whoever is in charge of the "big brother" scene has gotta be in a partnership with the insurance companies, since they just made them a shit load more money by raising the interest rates when you get these tickets. I dont know. thats what i was thinking.
