A little personal story for you...
On Jan 29/89 in Ft Wainwright AK...the 2nd CC130 in a flight of three flying line-a-stern. The weather was almost a white-out...-46 below...
First AC landed no problem....2nd in the formation....not so much....
Pilot went off instruments and tried to execute a visual landing misjudged the trailing edge of the runaway dropped his ass-end and ricocheted off of a snow bank 600' shy of the runway....
The AC pirouetted on its nose.... broke/tore the starboard wing off....burst into flames....melting the aluminum fuselage leaving mainly the ribs exposed....hell, even the snowshoes that the paratroopers had bundled melted.
Killed 9 out of the 18 pax aboard....I won't gross you out with the details on cold weather MajAd corpse retrieval...
I see a downed plane that supposedly crash lands, flips over (or at least almost flips over) yet other than the scattered tail section, I don’t really see the trademarks of an impact. I mean, this plane smacks the ground, loses an engine from both sides of the wings yet I see no droves on the dirt, elongated gouges or ruts in the surrounding grounds.
Are we really expected to believe ANY plane could roll like that and not have more damage to the wings or with the only fuselage left virtually intact? (Round) I mean really, not even a wing tip broken?
If we weren’t told this plane had crashed, I’d swear it was a fire training exercise.
