Britain's Olympic PR stunt-fest roped itself today when London's Mayor, 'loveable oaf' Boris Johnston, got stuck on a zip-line 20 feet over a field of bemused flag waving Brits. Like a mayoral white-haired walrus in pin-stripe and parachute harness, London's Boris hung legs-askew over the masses, as if held there by sheer charisma and divine right, before demanding a rope and ladder to return himself to terra firma.

Boris Johnson, London's famously colourful mayor, drew the mockery of British tabloid headlines for gushing over beach volleyball in a valedictory column he wrote to celebrate his city's Olympics in Monday's Daily Telegraph.

"As I write these words there are semi-naked women playing beach volleyball in the middle of the Horse Guards Parade immortalized by Canaletto. They are glistening like wet otters and the water is splashing off the brims of the spectators' sou'westers. The whole thing is magnificent and bonkers."
