NAIROBI, Kenya — A group of armed men attacked an upscale shopping mall in Nairobi on Saturday, killing at least 20 people, according to the Kenyan Red Cross, and wounding more than 50.

By midafternoon, police officers were swarming the mall and the gunmen were still inside, with reports that hostages had been taken.

Benson Kibue, the Nairobi police chief, told The Associated Press that it was a terrorist attack and that there were probably no more than 10 gunmen involved. Earlier, Mr. Kibue had said the attack was part of an attempted robbery.

Agence France-Presse reported that the gunmen had taken at least seven hostages, citing police and security guards at the scene. The Red Cross reported around 5 p.m. on its Twitter account that the hostages were being released, and that most hospitals in Nairobi were full.

Gen. Abbas Guled, secretary general of the Kenyan Red Cross, said in a phone interview that 20 people had been killed and over 50 wounded. The police said four people had been wounded but had not yet confirmed any fatalities.

Witnesses described hearing explosions and gunfire as they fled the premises.

Haron Mwachia, 20, a cleaner at the mall, said he escaped by climbing over a wall.

“I heard several gunshots and managed to run away,” he said. “Two of my colleagues were shot at while trying to escape the scene. There was also an explosion, which I suspect to have been a grenade.”

Vivian Atieno, 26, who works on the first floor of the mall, described “intense shooting,” starting around 11 a.m., before she escaped through a fire exit.

Stephen Opiyo, 25, who was working at a supermarket there, said: “We heard gunshots and started running, trying to find an escape route. I saw many people who had suffered gunshot injuries, and some have been taken away to hospital.”

Military helicopters hovered overhead as the police kept bystanders away from the scene.

Witnesses described attackers using AK-47 rifles and throwing grenades. Photographs from the scene showed a woman’s bloody body being lifted out of a car, the glass of the window shattered.

The police said they had surrounded the mall, and they were seen clearing the shops one by one.

“Our officers are on the ground carrying out an evacuation of those inside as they search for the attackers, who are said to be inside,” Inspector General David Kimaiyo of the Kenyan police told Agence France-Presse.

While the authorities said it was too early to determine who was behind the attack, suspicions turned immediately to the Shabab, the Somali militant group that has staged attacks in other African countries that have sent troops to Somalia to help fight the Shabab. Kenyan military forces invaded Somalia in October 2011.

In July 2010, in revenge for Uganda’s troop presence in Somalia, the Shabab killed more than 70 people who had gathered at a restaurant and a rugby field in Kampala, the Ugandan capital, to watch the final match of the World Cup.

Saturday’s attack ruptured the bubble of safety that surrounds the affluent districts of the Kenyan capital.

The United Nations uses Nairobi as a hub, and many nonprofit organizations have their regional headquarters for East Africa or even the entire continent in the Kenyan capital.

On weekends, the mall, called Westgate, is bustling with shoppers, including well-to-do Kenyans and the city’s large contingent of expatriates. Brightly lit, with peach-colored pillars, tan floor tiles and a marble stairway, Westgate has more than 80 stores covering 350,000 square feet.

Many shopping malls in Nairobi have security guards outside, checking vehicles, searching bags and using metal-detecting wands on visitors before they enter. But the guards — lightly armed if at all — would be no match for assailants armed with automatic rifles.

Westgate is in many ways like an American shopping mall, with a Converse store, a tapas restaurant and a corner where children can play while their parents shop and eat.

The United States Embassy issued a warning on Saturday after the attack, advising Americans to avoid public venues in Nairobi.

Kenyan Red Cross reports more than 30 people killed, at least 60 people injured by 18-20 Arabic-speaking gunmen who stormed the upscale Westgate center shopping mall in the Kenyan capital Saturday, Sept. 21. Riding in on motorcycles, they sprayed the crowds with gunfire and grenades. Kenyan police forces engaged the attackers, who carried large quantities of ammo, in fierce battle.

As terrified people rushed out, many holding children, the gunmen seized at least .seven hostages and barricaded themselves inside the building. Heavy military and police forces are surrounding the mall, attempting to negotiate the hostages’ release.

Kenyan sources report an unknown number of Israelis were in the mall which is Israeli-owned, including staff and shoppers. There is no word yet on their situation.

Witnesses who escaped reported that the terrorists, all masked and clad in black clothing, singled out white people and foreigners and shouted to fellow Muslims to run out.
The exclusive Westgate centre is often frequented by wealthy Kenyans and expatriates from in the country and outside. Police have urged residents to stay away from the area.
DEBKAfile: The terrorists’ modus operandi and their Arabic speech points to an al Qaeda gang which reached Nairobi from neighboring Somalia or the sea.

Or else they are members of the Islamist al-Shabaab terrorist movement of Somalia, which is linked to al Qaeda. This violent group has vowed revenge against Kenya for its military support of the Mogadishu government. In the past year, Kenyan and Somali troops wrested large areas of southern and central Somalia from Al Shabaab insurgent control. In a ground, air and naval assault, they ousted Al Shabaab from the key Somali port town of Kismayo, their last major urban stronghold.

Police: 39 people confirmed dead after attack in Nairobi, Kenya

Nairobi, Kenya (CNN) -- Armed gunmen waged a tense standoff with Kenyan police and soldiers inside an upscale Nairobi shopping mall early Sunday, hours after brazenly gunning down shoppers, diners and others.

Bodies still littered the lobby and ground floor of the Westgate Mall around 10:30 p.m. (3:30 p.m. ET), more than 10 hours after the attack began, according to the Kenya National Disaster Operation Centre.

There were 39 confirmed dead at that point, according to Kenya's president, who added that his close relatives are among those killed. Two gunmen, including one who was detained after being shot, are also dead. Francis Kimenia, secretary to the Cabinet, tweeted another 293 people got treatment at three area hospitals, which "are appealing for more blood."

It's possible the death toll might grow given the attackers had hardly given up and an unknown number of innocent civilians, perhaps dead or being held hostage, remained inside the mall Sunday morning.

Al-Shabaab, an al-Qaeda-linked militant group based in Somalia, claimed responsibility for the carnage and vowed not to negotiate with Kenyan authorities. It claimed that "all Muslims" were escorted from the mall before the attack -- suggesting that its targets were people who didn't believe in their extreme form of Islam.

Guess who part owns the Westgate mall? Zionist Israel maybe?

http://www.news.com.au/world-news/nairo ... 6724763652

NAIROBI'S Westgate shopping mall, part Israeli-owned and often crowded with well-to-do Kenyans, expatriates, diplomats and UN workers, has long been seen as a soft target for Islamic militants.

I'd like to do more research however I work full time now.

This could be a classic false flag to make kenyans get friendly with israel and start
installing U.S. bases full of mossad.

Isn't it funny how well armed these alqueda are?

Just when we heard that Alqueda aka Foreign backed mercenaries were being sent
arms shipments this month? I heard light arms but that's just bs.

Ahh, jackpot, This is definately a false flag to encourage kenya to become a
zionist owned police state and training facility for future reinforcements
for al queda in syria and elsewhere they are needed to create false flag terrorism
for others to use as an excuse to invade and occupy aka "provide peace keeping forces"

Whats wrong with kenyan military that they need israels help?

More like mossad and friends have plans for kenya as another staging base for terror.

http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/articles/50795 ... habaab.htm

How do I know this? well Israel special forces are there as we speak performing
a mop up operation since kenyan special forces must be shit house.

As I look through the pictures I notice that there are no pictures in the mall of
blood soaked floors with bodies laying around.

It's easy to say canadians and foreigners were killed, I want their names so I can
research their backgrounds and be sure they are real and not phony
like the imaginary bodies from the sandy hook mass shooting psy ops drill.

I knew when I was listening to bbc radio dropping my mum of in the outback that
this was probably a false flag again.

I had to check who owned the westgate mall, sounds like westfields doesn't it.

Looks like mainstream news can't make up their mind who owns the westgate mall:

http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/articles/50795 ... habaab.htm

Reports from Nairobi indicate that elite Israeli troops are battling Islamic militants to free the scores of hostages taken in the Westgate Mall siege.

The AFP reported that special forces have joined the fighting at the luxury mall in the Kenyan capital. "The Israelis have just entered the shopping centre and they are rescuing the hostages and the injured," the source told AFP on condition of anonymity.

Reuters confirmed the Israeli involvement, quoting security source saying Israeli advisers are helping with 'negotiating strategy' to end siege.

In Israel, foreign ministry spokesperson Paul Hirschson refused to confirm or deny that its forces were involved.

"We don't make a habit of commenting on security co-operation of any kind that there may or may not be," he told AFP.

The Westgate Shopping Mall is owned by an Israeli company.
:vomit:

Image

I can guess all the militants will be killed and none will go to trial.
I am surprised at how little blood there is in the photo's from inside
the mall.

Sure there were people hurt as they ran over eachother to get out of the building.
I saw some pictures of people bleeding alittle and pulling scared faces.

I didn't see any dead bodies coming out did you? Care to show me a picture of some
dead bodies being removed?

Crikey, check out these dead bodies:

I have to go to work but isn't it convenient that israel owns the shopping centre
and that their crack troops were there hours later supposedy dealing with
the "Muslim Terrorists" as they like saying over and over?
Kenya borders Sudan which borders Egypt.

It's just another slimy zionist false flag to gain support and to further fuel
the war against muslims.

Any terrorist attacks now I try to find a zionist connection and they are aplenty here.
Live by the Terror, Die by the Terror.
