The chanting on Sunday turned against Ayatollah Ali Khamenei himself, not just against President Ahmadinejad. He was castigated as the Dictator and as worse than the old shah, and the very ideological basis of the regime, the doctrine of clerical rule, was chanted against in the streets. The legitimacy of the regime, profoundly shaken by the events since early June's presidential election, is now being shredded further.

Another remarkable dimension of Sunday's events was the sheer number of cities where significant rallies and clashes occurred. Some of those allegedly killed are said to have fallen in Tabriz, a northwestern metropolis near Turkey. Even conservative cities such as Isfahan and Mashhad joined in. Shiraz, Ardabil, the list goes on. The attempt of some analysts to paint the disturbances as a shi-shi North Tehran thing has clearly foundered.

The most ominous sign of all for the regime is the reports of security men refusing orders to fire into the crowd. "

it's great to see the iranians taking off their blindfolds.i only wish americans would do the same.

It will happen if it goes too far - the clamps aren't down enough yet - but the water is simmering.

Americans should pay close attention and learn from what is happening in Iran. I was dating a woman who had four sons in different branches of the military. I told her to tell her sons that they are never to fire upon their fellow countrymen regardless of what they are ordered to do. In fact, if their commanding officer tells them to torture, imprison, or kill their fellow Americans, they should kill that officer instead. This is probably why the final takeover of America will involve United nations troops. In that case, our sons and daughters in the military should recognize that to be a foreign invasion force and act appropriately.

Dead on - they swore an oath to uphold the Constitution and to protect against enemies - foreign AND DOMESTIC!

We also have some damn good technology on our side.

That's why this whole thing is a slow indoctrination process.

I am always amazed that individuals\groups in power have the audacity to think that they can oppress their people and expect nothing to happen, because throughout history, such things never end well, firstly, let's consider that there are more of us common folk than those who hold power, secondly, those in power never seem to realize that the power they have , they hold onto by their fingertips, the ones who truly hold power are the masses, and when it's peace and freedom that is wanted by the citizens, they will fight to obtain it, I pray for the people of Iran, I hope the current regime falls, and the needless bloodshed ends. my hope for the new year is a measure of peace in the middle east, we pull our troops out of there, and let their people alone in peace to live their lives as they choose to.

that's a scary thought.but i always tell my boys- just because it's scary,it does not mean we have to be afraid...it means we have to be awake.and your right-it's simmering,but it takes a long time to boil.i'm probably not going to be around to 'voice my opinion'

It is a scary thought - i don't believe we will see a civil war - but I do believe we may very well see an uprising against our government.

Your sons will probably have to take a position. And some things are worth sacrificing all for, and knowing I will have to fight in place of one of my own sons, I;m okay with, if the time comes down to it.

If the United Nations wants to fuck with us - it will have to be done through clever lawyers - if by force - we got the shit to fuck them up. And that's another reason I'm happy Americans are constitutionally allowed to stay loaded to the teeth.
