peterxdunn wrote:The SDO, STEREO, SOHO and Helioviewer.org websites are all down today folks. Speculation is rife that there must have been some massive solar event that has taken out the satellites from which those websites obtain their data streams. However - in STEREO's case - we are looking at two satellites that orbit the Sun on opposite sides of the solar system. It is highly unlikely that both could have been taken out by the same solar event.

There is only one conclusion that we can arrive at here folks. There has to be something moving out there that they do not want us to see. What could this be?

Keep watching the skies.

"It's nothing to do with the satelites being down. The servers, based in Maryland are down due to the power outage from the storms

CHANCE OF MAGNETIC STORMS: NOAA forecasters estimate a 40% chance of polar geomagnetic storms today in response to a high-speed solar wind stream blowing around Earth. High-latitude sky watchers should be alert for auroras.

The EO website is not in service due to the extensive power outages in the Maryland/DC area. We'll be back when the power returns!

@SolarWatch Yep, basically any website housed at NASA GSFC.

The servers being down? Are you trying to tell us that all four satellite web sites are from the same server?
And nobody from NASA thought that putting them on one server could have eventual problems such as this?
Sounds like a ready made answer to me.

To settle this, would someone not in the US, please post a picture from today (June 1)?

Surely you jest?
I'll be looking that up when the servers go back online.
