Pope Benedict XVI 'to resign'

Image

Last year the Pope started using a cane on occasions and recently he appeared to have trouble reading the text of an address he delivered in Rome.

There was no immediate comment from the Vatican.

More to follow.

The Pope is to resign at the end of this month in an entirely unexpected development, reports from the Vatican say.

The 85-year-old became Pope Benedict XVI in April 2005 following the death of Pope John Paul II.

i wonder what scandal is about to erupt ?
We thought about it for a long time, "Endeavor to persevere." And when we had thought about it long enough, we declared war on the Union.

Interesting development, take a look at "St. Malachy & The Prophecy of the Popes."

A lot of people linked this 2012 and all the Mayan stuff, but read this:

This story begins in 1139, while on a visit to Rome, when St. Malachy reportedly had a vision seeing the succession of the 112 popes who'd follow Pope Celestine II until the end of time. Although the prophecies are cryptic and esoteric to some, many historians believe they've proved remarkably accurate in describing each successive pope.

Now, after many centuries, the sobering truth is that we're down to the last popes in the prophecy. The current pontiff, Pope Benedict XVI is the 111th pope, and the next will be The Final Pope in Malachy's prophecy --- the 112th pope. According to Malachy, he'll be the pope who reigns when Jesus returns to judge mankind.

So the next Pope will be the last before 'Jesus Returns'!

Now, as the world focuses on dozens of other prophecies concerning the coming "Doomsday" date, author, Jack Spring, has written a new novel, "The Rapture of Darkness," suggesting that everyone's looking the wrong way and missing the obvious. As well, he suggests we shouldn't be expecting a cataclysmic outcome, but should look to the prophecies of St. Malachy and other private Catholic revelations, and imagine a new and better day --- a new order of the ages.

ROME (Reuters) - Pope Benedict said on Monday he will resign on Feb 28 because he no longer has the strength to fulfill the duties of his office, becoming the first pontiff since the Middle Ages to take such a step.

The 85-year-old pope said he had noticed that his strength had deteriorated over recent months "to the extent that I have had to recognize my incapacity to adequately fulfill the ministry entrusted to me".

"For this reason, and well aware of the seriousness of this act, with full freedom I declare that I renounce the ministry of Bishop of Rome, Successor of Saint Peter," he said according to a statement from the Vatican.

A Vatican spokesman said the pontiff would step down from 1900 GMT on February 28, leaving the office vacant until a successor is chosen.

Utter bullshit, resigning as Gods representative on earth.... ...give me a break..

I think that the probability of an african pope is extremely high...We are then entering fundamentalist territory then....The catholic church is not past creating a prophecy mythology in order to further its agendas
