First, let me just say I never said who I believed was behind the attacks. But if you think Assad's government is innocent, take heed in the fact that they are the reason the UN inspectors have not been allowed access to the area.
As for the pope, of course he is concerned about the Christian persecution blatantly displayed in the region.
The west more or less pretends not to notice, or are so wrapped up in their own lives they are oblivious to anything else.

Agree, there could be a number of reasons why though, they have not had access to the area.
1. its under rebel control, which would leave the Syrian Army responsible for providing the UN inspectors safety and security,in a major war zone. Which is alot bigger then dropping paratroopers in and securing the area.

2, already have had 2 occasions,UN peacekeepers were kidnapped and held hostage by Syrian FSA militants

3. Its not what there Mission in Syria Was for, and both sides must agree on terms, i would not blame Assad for not completely trusting the United Nations

4. Assad or Rebels are hiding the truth

5. al-nushra/al-qaeda militants do not view the UN as any type of authority group, and would love to get there fingers on A few UN inspectors for ransom or to murder for being infidels.

Many other reasons..I have followed this conflict since it started, and for along time, didn't know which side i agreed with,
but what convinced me the rebels could not be trusted the most,is the fact that most of them are not Syrian ,so why should they care about Syrians?they have an agenda, just like the US government.

Assad has no reason,to gas his own people imo. He is for the most part winning the war. And he knows what it would cause in regards to US/European intervention...

Came across this listening to a video in this thread.

US special operations and CIA teams, along with Israeli and Jordanian troops, have entered Syria to command members of the militant groups fighting against the Syrian government, according to a French newspaper.

“According to our information, Le Figaro reported on Thursday, “The regime's opponents, supervised by Jordanian, Israeli and American commandos have been moving towards Damascus since mid-August.”

US and Jordanian teams have set up a training camp in Jordan where special operations units are training members of the militant groups in Syria.

According to Le Figaro, the first group of these specially trained militant fighters, commanded by American special forces, crossed the border into Syria on August 17 along with a number of CIA operatives. A second group joined them two days later, the report said.

The newspaper cites military sources saying the operation began in the southern Syrian region of Deraa.

DEBKAfile, an Israeli newspaper, also reported that up to 250 US-trained rebels entered an area of Syria near the Israeli border this past Saturday and were joined by an additional 300 on Monday.

The US troops and intelligence officers reportedly made their way into Syria a few days before reports emerged that hundreds of men, women and children were killed by an alleged chemical weapons attack in the suburbs of Damascus.

The alleged chemical attack, which some experts argue was suspicious, prompted the United States and other Western courtiers to call for a military response.

US officials said Thursday that the Pentagon was refining its military options for possible strikes on a number of government and military installations in Syria, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Syria's foreign-backed opposition claimed on Wednesday that around 1,300 people were killed in a government chemical attack on militant strongholds in the Damascus suburbs of Ain Tarma, Zamalka and Jobar.

The Syrian government and the army categorically denied any role in the alleged chemical attack.

Syrian soldiers find chemical agents in rebel tunnels near Damascus- state TV

Syrian army soldiers have found chemical agents as they entered rebel tunnels in Damascus suburb of Jobar, Syrian TV reports, adding that some of them started suffocating.

Soldiers "entered the terrorists’ tunnels and saw chemical agents," state television quoted a "news source" as saying. "In some cases, soldiers started suffocating while entering Jobar," it said.

"Ambulances came to rescue the people who were suffocating," it added.

The source added that army troops were preparing to storm the suburb where rebels are believed to be based, Reuters reports.

Rebels fighting to oust President Bashar Assad accuse government forces of attacking people in the Damascus suburbs with toxic gas. At the same time, the ruling regime has dismissed the accusations.

However, some Western powers suspect Assad’s forces to be behind the attack that the opposition claims killed anywhere between ‘dozens’ to ‘1,300’.

France says that all indications show that Syrian army troops are responsible for what it called a "chemical massacre".

"All the information at our disposal converges to indicate that there was a chemical massacre near Damascus and that the Bashar regime is responsible," French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said on Saturday.

UK Foreign Secretary William Hague has suggested that "the Assad regime has something to hide" as the UN team, which is “20 minutes away” from the site of the recent attack, “have not been able to” go there and investigate.

“Why else have they not allowed the UN team to go there?” Hague said.

The White House said on Saturday that a ‘range of options’ is available on Syria if it’s proven that Assad’s forces used chemical weapons.

"We have a range of options available, and we are going to act very deliberately so that we're making decisions consistent with our national interest as well as our assessment of what can advance our objectives in Syria," the White House official said. "Once we ascertain the facts, the President will make an informed decision about how to respond," the official added.

UN High Representative for Disarmament Affairs, Angela Kane arrived in Syria to try to get access for the team of international inspectors to work at the site in the Damascus suburbs.

The US and European security sources have made a preliminary assessment that the Syrian government used chemical weapon, but still said they are seeking conclusive proof, which could take days, weeks or longer to gather.

On Saturday, UN High Representative for Disarmament Affairs, Angela Kane, arrived in Syria to try to get access for the team of international inspectors to work at the site in the Damascus suburbs.

On Wednesday a gas attack in Damascus suburbs was reported by opposition activists.

Next day the UN inspectors requested access to the site “without delays” on Thursday in order to investigate the alleged use of chemical weapons in attacks in the country.

The Syrian government said that it was ready to engage in “maximum” cooperation with UN experts, according to Russia’s foreign ministry.

On Friday the Syrian opposition said they will ensure the safety of UN chemical weapons experts as they pass through rebel-controlled areas, adding that their successful arrival at the site of an alleged gas attack near Damascus within 48 hours was ‘critical.’

The UN investigative team entered the country last Sunday. Three weeks ago an agreement was reached with Syrian President Bashar Assad’s government regarding the three different locations that were to be examined by the mission.

Syria: Chemical Weapons Videos Uploaded Before Attack! (Video)

Image

Prison Planet has found a very strange occurrence with videos purported to be proof of Syrian chemical attacks. The attacks were reported to have happened on August 21, 2013, yet in 159 instances, the videos were uploaded to YouTube on August 20, 2013.

The first thing that came to mind was there is a time difference between countries, but the article addresses that as well with the following:

The time stamp attributed to uploaded videos applies to the country in which they were uploaded, meaning that the videos were uploaded in Syria on August 20th, which is seemingly impossible given that the attack took place in the early hours of the 21st. The only way the videos could display as being uploaded on the 20th was if they were uploaded in America, which is on an earlier time zone.

The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Aleksandr Lukashevich claims this shows evidence that the chemical attacks were “pre-planned.”

“We’re getting more new evidence that this criminal act was of a provocative nature,” he told RT. “In particular, there are reports circulating on the Internet, in particular that the materials of the incident and accusations against government troops had been posted for several hours before the so-called attack. Thus, it was a pre-planned action.”

The playlist of videos entitled ‘Alleged Chemical Attack in Eastern Ghouta August 21st 2013‘ were all uploaded on August 20, 2013.

How does footage of an attack get uploaded before the attack happened?

More:

The unanswered question as to how footage showing victims of an attack that occurred on August 21 was uploaded to YouTube on August 20 is in addition to doubts cast about the veracity of the videos by several chemical weapons experts.

Paula Vanninen of the Finnish Institute for Verification of the Chemical Weapons Convention questions the behavior of those seen handling the victims in the video footage. “At the moment, I am not totally convinced because the people that are helping them are without any protective clothing and without any respirators….In a real case, they would also be contaminated and would also be having symptoms,” he stated.

The video below is an example of one of those videos and if you click the URL of the video, you can see the date it was uploaded does not match the the date media reported the attack occurred.

I guess that is because the site is an American website. Based on the time the videos were uploaded, they were uploaded 3 hours after the attack, given the 7 hour time variation between Syria and American east coast, 9 hours west coast. But... when I load the site here in Turkey it does say the 21st. When the attacks "apparently" happened, it was just before 9:00pm on the 20th in the states and just before 3:am here in Turkey. Just like it says here on your post, here on DTV, that you posted this at 2:27 pm even though that is not the time in the States. This is common and happens quite often when dealing with different time zones.
